Battle of the Common Moorhens!

You never know what you're going to see when you're out birding.

We were at Green Cay in Florida on the 17th. They have a great Nature Center and boardwalk that runs through a wetlands area. If you click on this blog's title, you will see their website. While we were walking and looking and being overwhelmed a bit by the amount of birds all around, we heard a racket coming from a small group of Common Moorhens.

Apparently, some addle brained youth decided to move in on the old man's territory. Silly boy! During this battle royal, what I would guess to be the female, stood off to the side preening herself and not caring a bit about the fight over her, typical. They're so hard to impress.

Common Moorhens doing battle.

"I'm ignoring you both."

Those are mighty big feet!

The kid getting yelled at.

The ultimate insult..."Kiss my Behind!"

Gotta love those butt shots!

More birds...no more snow please...

I couldn't think of anything but Florida birds today. We had more snow in Bay Village on Saturday...great...

So, today I'm working on identifying all the birds in the photos and editing my favorites. This should take another week due to the fact I have to go to a 'real' job Monday through Friday. In the meantime, here's a few of my favorites to date, with more to follow!

Aren't Anhinga's the oddest bird? This one is at Loxahatchee NWR

This is where I discovered how heavy a Canon 300mm lens is when you're holding it over your head. That's a Brown Pelican flying over the beach in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea by the way.

I never really noticed the color surrounding the Great Blue Heron's eyes before. Taken at Loxahatchee NWR. Fantastic!

That's a Purple Gallinule at Green Cay, if you couldn't tell from this angle.

Very odd, this is the first photo outing that I actually had a hard time getting photos of birds from behind. I apologize. I will work harder from now on. Thank you for your patience.
