Burdz and Buttz...and more burdz...

Somewhere under the ice is the Rocky River...somewhere...

These photos are in my computer and they needed to come out! It's getting crowded in there, so here's some more of our Sunday walk in Rocky River Reservation. (By the way we didn't walk in the river.)

Once again, this is what a Black-capped Chickadee is SUPPOSED to look like.

This is what a Black-capped Chickadee looks like when his toupee blows off.
Doodles says that's what I look like without a hat...shessh...

Fox Sparrows are good looking even when food is hanging out of their beaks!

The Fox Sparrow showing some booty for the camera!

This is the very rare 'Ice Owl' or 'Bubo Glacies'...they live in ice holes.
Insert your own joke here...

We were freezing, imagine this poor female Northern Cardinal...
just sitting in that branch...
waiting for her hubby to finish pigging out...

"Oh! This is DELICIOUS! Honey! Wait til you taste this stuff!"
Make her wait any longer and she's gonna peck your eyes out.

This is a Red-tailed Hawk.
See the Hawk.
See the Hawk fly.
The Hawk has a stick.
Watch the Hawk beat Dave with the stick.
Run David, run!

No, no, no...he didn't really beat me with that stick(Doodles tried though.)
He is building a nest in an evergreen right over the trail.
We saw him there last year also, but when the leaves come out on the surrounding trees, he disappears.

Did you know that Song Sparrows are excellent down hill skiers?
You won't find that in your Kaufman Bird Guide!

When we first spotted this one skulking in the shrubs,
we thought he was a White-throated Sparrow. But he looked so dark!
Turns out he's a Swamp Sparrow waiting for the swamp to thaw.

Tufted Titmouse.
The name makes me giggle.
I'm so immature.
I bet you just giggled too.

This White-breasted Nuthatch was so busy hiding everything he found that he forgot to eat any of it!
Duh.

How often do you see a Red-bellied Woodpecker from this angle?

This is more normal...especially for me!
So, why do they call it a Red-bellied Woodpecker?

You know there's too much snow and you have a little cabin fever when this happens!

HOLY CATS BATMAN!!
Looky here at this link to the "Featured Bird Blog of the WEEK!"
Yes! I am slowly brain washing the world....mwa-ha-ha!

Another Odd Bird...

Even this Red-bellied Woodpecker was afraid to peek!

Since the weather was a little rough this weekend, we stayed away from the BirdMobile(boo!) So we decided(the Doodles!) we'd go to Rocky River Reservation very close to home to see what we could see. And what did we see? Oh my. What we saw! And you soon shall see what we saw.

But first, you need to see what else we saw before you see what we saw that was not something you would normally see. See? So...

The Dark-eyed Junco couldn't believe we saw what he saw!

The Downy Woodpecker was wordless!

The Fox Sparrow felt faint!

The Northern Cardinal was incoherent!

The Pileated Woodpecker became perturbed!

The Song Sparrow was songless!

The White-breasted Nuthatch could see him and was ready to run UP the tree!

The Black-capped Chickadee said "He's not from my side of the nest!"

**CAUTION**
BE PREPARED!

AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
It's the scariest White-capped Black-capped Chickadee ever!

And I'll bet you thought there would be a photo of me at the end...ha.
