Big Baldy Day!

Working on a nest?

And I'm not taking about the lack of hair upon my sparsely populated scalp! These photos were taken at Old Woman Creek Research Reserve on the shores of Lake Erie,. This is number 9 on our Longest Twitch of the Lake Erie Birding Trail.

We've seen Bald Eagles before, two or three at a time. On this rather overcast and damp day we saw a total of SEVEN...all in one place! If you're in Alaska they may not be unusual, but around here they're not that social. There were a few others birds as well...that will be in the next post!

Here we see two adults and two juveniles.

This tree was directly to the left of the above shot.
The American Crows weren't very welcoming to this kid!

Another younster flying past to check us out.
"You gots any foods for me?! Hmmm?"

This youngster was in a tree to the right of the main group.
This neighborhood is getting crowded!

Now for some disturbing news...

The Fish and Wildlife service in their infinite(?) wisdom, has decided to alter the amount of "takes" allowed of Bald and Golden Eagles. "Takes" are bird killed accidentally or otherwise. Once again the Wind Energy folks are being excused from any regulations regarding the protection of birds. They can put up slice and dice towers where ever they feel would make the most profit without any regards for the safety of migrating or nesting wildlife.

Thanks!

* Special thanks and a big hug to Kim Kaufman form the Black Swamp Bird Observatory for this information!
